Emergency repairs on water supply valve in Hout Bay in its final stages

The City’s Water and Sanitation Department is currently doing emergency repairs to a damaged valve that is affecting the water supply to a large part of Hout Bay. Every effort is being made to complete the repairs as soon as possible. The complexity of the work which involves the removal of the concrete thrust block to access the encased damaged valve for replacement has delayed the repairs considerably. Additional resources have been deployed to assist with the repairs and it is now estimated that the water supply will be restored at approximately 15:00 today.

Areas without water are Lower Mount Rhodes, the vicinity of Park Road, Imizamo Yethu, Suikerbossie and Llandudno. Consumers in these areas are kindly requested to keep their taps closed to prevent any water loss and/or damage

The City’s Water and Sanitation team is working around the clock to effect the repairs and also monitoring the reservoir levels supplying these areas.

Residents in Hout Bay who are not currently affected by the water supply disruption are requested to urgently reduce their consumption to reduce the strain on the currently stressed water supply to the area.

Water tankers will be roaming through the affected areas to provide water for domestic use during the repairs.

The City sincerely regrets any inconvenience caused and appreciates the patience of the consumers while it endeavours to complete the repairs and restore the water supply to the affected areas.
